About Baseball
Thanks to one of the best hitting teams in Drew’s history, baseball reached the Freedom Playoffs and posted a 16-23 record. The Rangers set school records for team batting average and hits as they finished in third place in the Freedom with a 9-9 conference record. Late inning victories over FDU, DeSales and Scranton helped Drew reach the playoffs and give head coach Vince Masco 337 wins in his career.
Seniors Joe Henrikson and Tom Caraciollo and junior Joe Cardinale paced the offense. Henrikson finishes his career at Drew first in nearly every offensive category while Caraciollo’s fine season earned him Top 10 placement on the single-season and career hits lists. Cardinale joined Henrikson in breaking the old single season hits record and launched six home runs this season. Junior pitchers Justin Distler and Jon Murrelli anchored the pitching staff. Distler placed third in the conference in ERA and strikeouts while throwing the second most innings and Murrelli became the Rangers top reliever while leading the conference in saves.
Joe Henrikson was named the Freedom Conference Player of the Year. The senior was also named 1st team All-Freedom, All-NJCBA and Regional All-American (ABCA).
